Grant Application Guidelines

for Free Bedspace at Y.X Student Co-Living Accommodation

This grant aims to assist students who are facing financial hardship, providing them with a safe and affordable living environment, so they can focus on their academic and personal development.

If you are an eligible student facing financial difficulty, you may apply for a free bedspace (from Dec 2024 to Jul 2025) in Y.X student co-living accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the free bedspace, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    1. Current Enrollment: Must be a full-time student at an accredited university or higher education institution.
    2. Financial Need: Must demonstrate significant financial need. Preference will be given to students from low-income backgrounds, or those facing other financial or social challenges.
    3. TSFS Funding: Must be currently receiving full or partial funding from the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS). Applicants are required to provide proof of eligibility for this funding as part of their application.
    4. Academic Standing: Applicants should maintain satisfactory academic progress as per their institution’s standards. A good GPA may be required, or evidence of academic potential in lieu of a GPA may be considered.
    5. Commitment to Community Living: Applicants must be willing to engage respectfully with other residents and contribute to the community living environment at the accommodation.

    Required Documents:

    To complete your application, please provide all the following documents:

    1. Proof of Enrollment:  A current enrollment letter or student ID card from your university or higher education institution, which must be located in Hong Kong and recognised by the HKSAR government.
    2. Financial Documentation: One or more of the following:
      • Recent bank statements.
      • A copy of your family’s or guardian’s financial income (e.g., pay slips, tax returns).
      • Scholarship or financial aid documents.
      • Any other documents that demonstrate financial need.
    3. TSFS Proof: A copy of the official notification or a letter confirming that you are currently receiving full or partial funding from the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS).
    4. Academic Transcript: A copy of your most recent academic transcript, or a letter from your university confirming your academic standing.
    5. Personal Statement: A short essay (within 300 words) explaining your current financial situation, why you need free accommodation, and how this opportunity will support your educational and personal goals.


    Application Process:

    1. Submit Your Application:
      • Complete an application form.

    2. Review and Interview:
      • Shortlisted applicants may be contacted for an interview (either in person or online).
      • The interview will focus on your personal situation, academic aspirations, and your fit for the co-living environment.
    3. Selection Criteria:
      • Applications will be evaluated based on financial need, academic standing, proof of TSFS funding, personal statement, and the potential benefit of the accommodation grant.
      • Preference will be given to those facing acute financial hardship, and those who demonstrate strong academic promise and a commitment to community living.
    4. Notification:
      • Applications for the free bedspace grant are reviewed on a rolling basis. We reserve the right to not offer a bedspace if no suitable applications are received.
    Only shortlisted applicants will be notified by email. If selected, you will receive detailed information on your accommodation, house rules, and move-in procedures.

    Accommodation Details:

    • Location: YHill, 71-77 Hill Rd, Shek Tong Tsui; or Y36, 3 San Lau St, Hung Hom.
    • Duration: The grant is for a specified duration from 1 Dec 2024 to 31 July 2025.
    • Community Expectations: Residents are expected to adhere to house rules and contribute to a respectful and supportive living environment. Participation in community events or initiatives may be encouraged but is not mandatory.

    Timeline:

    Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage early applications to ensure consideration for available spaces.
